Monday the 25th through Wednesday the 27th the Lincoln SCORE Chapter/Southeast Community College presented a workshop – “What’s Involved in Starting a Small Business?”. A very good group of interested attendees participated in the workshop and Bonnie Myers, the Lincoln SCORE Chapter’s Workshop Chair, reported that the evaluation sheets turned in by the participants gave the presenters high marks for coverage of their individual topics. The topics covered included the following: Business Plan & Marketing, Practical Accounting, Financing Needs, Sales Tax, Legal, and Insurance.
I presented the Practical Accounting part of the workshop with my goal being to encourage the attendees to be involved in the development of the basic information needed for their business’s Chart of Accounts and Financial Statements. I emphasis the need for the owner/manger to be able to read and understand the three important Financial Statements; the Balance Sheet, the Income Statement, and the Cash Flow Statement.
Our next workshop covering this same material – “What’s Involved in Starting a Small Business?” will be held on Saturday August 27th. If you know of someone you feel would gain by attending this workshop have them call SCC in Lincoln @ 402-437-2700 and ask for registration information.
