Today, September 19 2011, RG Bud Phelps presented the following summary of the accomplishments of Milkworks over the past 10 years as part of awarding MilkWorks the Lincoln SCORE Chapter’s 2011 Business of the year:

MilkWorks has also received a great deal of support and backing by several community organizations and businesses.  A college marketing professor, whose wife and baby were clients involved his class in developing a marketing plan for the business.  The health department’s public health nurses communicate breastfeeding needs and assist with pump rental management for their clients.  A WIC program has contracted with MilkWorks for lactation support for their clients.  Local and state foundations have provided funding for low income families.  The SCORE office provided free accounting expertise to improve financial reports and to help interview for an accounting position. There are many more examples.

Over 10 years later, MilkWorks has expanded 3 times from the original 1000 square feet to 5600 square feet, still at the same location.  Our $120,000 budget has grown to $900,000.  Last year, clinical services were provided to approximately 1000 mothers, both on site and at two inner city outreach clinics.  In addition to that, another 2000+ mothers were served through classes, events, drop-in weight checks, etc. Clients have come from several states to utilize the services offered.  MilkWorks currently has 22 part time employees for a total of 9 FTE’s.

Nebraska’s Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy and RG Bud Phelps presented a plaque to Kaye Lidolph of MilkWorks signifying their selection as Lincoln SCORE Chapter’s 2011 Business of the Year.  Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy then made remorks relative to the importance this non-profit organization has proven to be for Lincoln, Lancaster County and to the State of Nebraska.

Kaye Lidolph – Director of Special Projects & Finance; Ann Seacrest – Executive Director; and Dr. Kathy Leeper – Medical Director; were all recognized for their part in the development of MilkWorks over these past 10 years.  These three women have been there from the beginning and have made this growth possible.
