As One of ’50 Great Writers You Should be Reading’

Phelps was chosen as the result of a public voting process.  His historical fiction book, entitled “Back in the Day,” is the second book in his ‘life series’ which started with “Gibbon’s Secrets.”  His book, Back in the Day, covers the ten year period from 1945 to 1955.

(Lincoln Nebraska, February 6, 2014)  Press Release: RG Bud Phelps, author of “Back in the Day,” has been chosen as one of ’50 great Writers You Should Be Reading.’  The contest was sponsored by the Authors Show.  ‘Back in the Day’ is the second installment in Phelps’ historical fiction ‘life series.’  Phelps was also a winner in the 2012 ’50 Great Authors You Should be Reading’ for his historical fiction book,  ‘Gibbon’s Secrets – A Boy’s Memories of the 40’s.’

“I am proud,” Phelps stated, “to be a 2013 winner in ’50 Great Authors You Should be Reading.”  “Back in the Day is a realistic fiction book paralleling my memories from high school and throughout my service in the U.S. Navy.  This historical fiction novel represents the memories and experiences of thousands of Americans who grew up in the same era.”

In this ‘life series’ book Phelps shares a young man’s historical fiction experiences throughout high school, summers in-between, and four years in the Navy.  These experiences and relationships begin with growing up in a small town in Nebraska, where a healthy atmosphere was common and possible in the 1950’s.  He elected to classify the incidents and individual characters in this story as historical fiction, making it possible to share his recollections of the content in a realistic order.  The dialogues used throughout the story are the types of conversations recalled by Phelps during the time frame of the story.

Since publishing his first book in 2006, he has published several more books in both the arena of accounting and the world of historical fiction, plus a realistic fiction mystery.  Bud’s personal writing philosophy is to rely on his own experiences as a guide, keeping the books both interesting and easy to read.
